Republican Health Care Cuts Continue to Devastate American Families

Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden, D-Ore., and House Energy and Commerce Committee Ranking Member Frank Pallone Jr., D-N.J., today released their latest report spotlighting the consequences of the Republican Big Ugly Betrayal, which slashed over $1 trillion from Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act in July 2025.

“One year after Republicans passed the largest health care cuts in American history, the consequences are impossible to ignore,” Wyden said. “Clinics are closing, health care workers are being laid off, families are losing health insurance, and access to care is shrinking. Trump and Republicans keep lying about the harm of their Big Ugly Bill, while Americans are living through their consequences every day.”

“It’s been a year since Trump signed his Big Ugly Bill into law and millions of Americans are living with the consequences,” Pallone said. "Families across the country have lost their health insurance, hospitals are closing, and premiums are rising. When Trump said beautiful, he meant it for the billionaires—it’s quite ugly for everyone else.” 

June numbers showed a continuing devastating assault on Americans’ health care. 

• Hospitals, clinics, and other health care services are all suffering: 44 hospital closures, clinic closures, and service reductions across 13 states: North Carolina, Georgia, Texas, Kansas, Indiana, Florida, Iowa, Maryland, California, Massachusetts, Michigan, New York, and Arkansas.
• Essential health care workers are losing their jobs: 897 employees laid off across 11 states: Indiana, Virginia, Florida, Minnesota, Texas, Missouri, California, Colorado, Massachusetts, Arkansas, and New York.

Thousands of Americans in red and blue states alike are already paying the price, facing skyrocketing health insurance costs. This year alone, deductibles for health insurance plans on the ACA marketplace have increased by an average of $1,027. No one should have to choose between affording health coverage and paying for basic necessities like groceries or rent.

Trump's health care agenda has only worsened our nation’s health care crisis. Since July 2025, 302 clinics and hospitals have closed across 42 states, while nearly 10,000 health care workers in 31 states have lost their jobs—leaving families with fewer places to turn for care when they need it most.
