Pallone Applauds Obama Administration’s Final Standards to Improve Heavy-Duty Vehicle Efficiency & Cut Carbon Pollution

August 16, 2016

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Energy and Commerce Ranking Member Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) today applauded a final rule from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that increases fuel efficiency and reduces greenhouse gas emissions from medium- and heavy-duty trucks, which will result in cutting a total of 1.1 billion metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions.

"The Obama Administration has taken another critical step forward in the global fight against climate change. The final standards will substantially curb the growing carbon pollution from medium- and heavy-duty trucks, and will move us down the road toward a cleaner and more prosperous future. The standards will encourage cleaner and more efficient vehicles, significantly reduce greenhouse gases that cause global warming, spur innovation, strengthen our role as world leaders in vehicle technology, and make us more economically competitive in the years ahead."
