Pallone on Latest Affordable Care Act Sabotage

December 12, 2018

Energy and Commerce Ranking Member Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) issued the following statement today on the Sunlight Foundation's new report documenting the Trump Administration's latest efforts to sabotage HealthCare.gov in the middle of the Open Enrollment period. Enrollment through Healthcare.gov is down by about 10 percent compared to 2017 and this latest sabotage threatens to have further impact:

"The Trump Administration is once again attempting to deter people from signing up for health care by changing the Open Enrollment page midway through the signup period and removing information on how to apply by phone and mail. Even worse, it appears the Administration is directing people away from Healthcare.gov, and steering them towards private websites that sell junk insurance plans. These junk plans will leave patients at risk of massive out-of-pocket costs and no coverage for critical health care services such as prescription drugs.

"When Democrats take control of the House next year we will hold the Trump Administration accountable for their efforts to sabotage the American health care system and prevent people from accessing health coverage.

"In the meantime, I encourage everyone to stand up to the Trump Administration by going to HealthCare.gov and checking out their options."
