Pallone and DeGette Praise FERC for Updating Grid Planning to Lower Costs for Consumers

May 13, 2024

Energy and Commerce Committee Ranking Member Frank Pallone, Jr. and Energy, Climate, and Grid Security Subcommittee Ranking Member Diana DeGette (D-CO) released the following statement today praising the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) for its final rule to overhaul electric grid planning to prioritize reliability and affordability for consumers:

“Today’s action by FERC is a major victory for clean energy that will reduce congestion and lower costs for consumers. This comprehensive and proactive grid planning will create more reliable, affordable, and clean power that Americans can depend on.

“We thank Chairman Phillips and Commissioner Clements for their continued dedication to getting us closer to the 21st century clean energy grid that America desperately needs. We must also move toward a truly integrated grid because the longer we keep our nation’s various grids separate and isolated, the weaker and less resilient they become in the face of increasing extreme weather events. Going forward, we urge the Commission to prioritize action to address interregional planning to unlock even greater reliability and affordability benefits for all Americans.”
