Pallone Blasts Trump Administration Roll Back of Fuel Economy Standards

December 3, 2025

Energy and Commerce Committee Ranking Member Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) released the following statement today on the Trump Administration’s latest move to roll back the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards:

“Today the Trump Administration decided to raise fuel costs for Americans, imperil our health, and pollute our air by canceling the clean car rules. The June 2024 CAFE standards lowered costs for Americans at the pump, made our air cleaner and more breathable, and reduced pollution to combat climate change. Today’s announcement once again shows the Trump Administration is more concerned with lining the pockets of their polluter friends than providing relief to hardworking Americans.

“Fuel efficiency standards are common sense policy, and we should be working together to strengthen them, not enriching polluters at the expense of Americans’ health and pocketbooks.”
