Pallone Commends Biden Administration for Ensuring LNG Exports Benefit Americans
Energy and Commerce Committee Ranking Member Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) released the following statement today after the Biden Administration announced it is temporarily pausing pending approvals of liquid natural gas (LNG) exports:
“I applaud the Biden Administration for fully reviewing the impacts of our LNG exports to ensure they are in the public interest. The United States is far and away the largest natural gas producer in the world: we alone account for 25 percent of the entire world’s production every day, outproducing the next two biggest producers combined. Before we send our energy resources abroad, it is only right that we first confirm doing so will benefit Americans – not our competitors. China is a leading destination for American LNG, and that deserves added scrutiny.
“What’s more, the law requires that the Department of Energy only authorize exports which are in the public interest, and that examination must fully include the impacts of LNG exports on energy prices, global greenhouse gas emissions, and environmental justice communities. Today’s action builds on this Administration’s commitment to lowering energy costs for Americans and protecting them from corporate polluters’ practice of putting profits over people.”
