Pallone: Cutting Public Health Funding Will Have Deadly Consequences

March 28, 2025

Energy and Commerce Committee Ranking Member Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) released the following statement after the Trump Administration rescinded at least $11 billion dollars in public health funding for states without warning, including $350 million in New Jersey:

“Unilaterally rescinding public health funding overnight during a measles outbreak and fentanyl overdose crisis is dangerous and irresponsible.

“States and local health departments rely on this money to track and respond to infectious disease outbreaks, fund community health workers, assist vaccination efforts, and support people struggling with substance use and addiction. These dollars were already promised to the states and rescinding them arbitrarily and unlawfully with no notice will wreak havoc on state budgets, result in medical providers going unpaid for services they have already delivered, and will result in people suffering. Suffering and chaos are clearly the Trump Administration’s goal.

“The Trump Administration’s decision to steal this money is a political stunt that will have deadly consequences for the American people.”
