Pallone to DOGE: Hands Off the Government Accountability Office
May 16, 2025
Energy and Commerce Committee Ranking Member Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) released the following statement on reports that Elon Musk’s DOGE team attempted to illegally interfere with the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO):
“Attempts by Elon Musk and his DOGE lackeys to infiltrate the legislative branch are an illegal violation of our nation’s sacred separation of powers. Musk has no power over the legislative branch’s watchdog agency.
“GAO employees rightly turned away attempts by DOGE to assign a team to the agency. Republican Congressional Leaders must stand up against this illegal intrusion. Further attempts to violate the separation of powers will trigger a constitutional crisis and must be stopped.”
