Pallone: Health and Energy Costs Are Soaring Under Trump Administration

Energy and Commerce Committee Ranking Member Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) released the following statement today ahead of President Trump’s State of the Union Address: 

“President Trump has broken his promise to lower costs. Now more than a year into his Administration, the affordability crisis is worse than it’s ever been while Trump lines the pockets of his rich corporate friends. 

“The cost of health care has exploded under Trump’s leadership. Millions are losing their health care altogether while millions more are being forced to pay two and three times more for coverage. Hospitals and nursing homes around the country are on the brink of closure due to Republican funding cuts. To distract from all this chaos, the president will tout his TrumpRx platform, which is the latest in a long line of scams he’s slapped his name on while failing to deliver for Americans. 

“Families across the country are also getting shafted by skyrocketing power bills every month – bills which Trump promised to cut in half. Instead, his backwards war on clean American energy is causing nationwide electricity prices to climb twice as fast as inflation, all while Republicans’ Big Ugly Bill threatens to raise those prices by a staggering 61 percent over the next ten years. It’s a disgrace for middle class families struggling to make ends meet.

“It didn’t have to be this way. We should be working together to address the affordability crisis, lower costs, and help grow the middle class. Instead, Trump’s priority is ensuring the rich get richer at everyone else’s expense — so long as he gets a cut.”
