Pallone on the Kickoff of ACA Open Enrollment
Energy and Commerce Committee Ranking Member Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) released the following statement today ahead of the first day of open enrollment to sign up for health care on the Affordable Care Act (ACA) Marketplace:
“November 1st marks the first day of open enrollment on the ACA Marketplace. Unfortunately, millions of Americans are going to be shocked by the prices they see when they log on to review their coverage options for next year.
“While Republicans were more than happy to make tax breaks permanent for billionaires in President Trump’s Big Ugly Bill, they refused to extend tax credits to lower health care costs for working families. And now House Republicans are missing in action, refusing to return to Washington to fix the health care crisis they created.
“While some of the prices currently listed for next year are outrageously high for people losing the enhanced tax credit, Democrats will keep fighting to bring them down. The sticker shock many families will face when they shop for health coverage is unacceptable, and it’s why Congress must act.
“If President Trump and Republicans are willing to give giant tax breaks to the rich, they should be willing to work with Democrats to lower health care costs for American families.”
