Pallone on Republicans’ Devastating Health Care Cuts

Energy and Commerce Committee Ranking Member Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) released the following statement today as Republicans unveiled their budget blueprint that includes $880 billion or more in devastating cuts to Medicaid – taking health care away from Americans in order to give tax breaks to billionaires and big corporations: 

“Republicans have now made clear they will try to take health care away from millions of hardworking Americans to give massive tax breaks to their ultra-rich friends.  

“The consequences of this budget will be devastating. One in three Americans rely on Medicaid for their health coverage and this Republican budget will eviscerate that care. Millions of Americans will lose their coverage, hospitals will be forced to close, and Community Health Centers will be forced to lay off doctors and nurses. 

“This is a heartless and cruel proposal that will ruin people’s lives so the rich can get richer. It’s a Republican Rip-Off and Democrats will do everything we can to defeat it.”
