Pallone on Trump Administration Dropping Idaho EMTALA Case: Women Will Die as a Result of this Decision
March 5, 2025
Energy and Commerce Committee Ranking Member Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) released the following statement today on the Trump Administration’s decision to drop the Department of Justice’s case against Idaho’s violation of the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA):
“In no uncertain terms, the Trump Administration has decided that women should die instead of receiving the health care they need in the United States. By allowing Idaho’s law to stand unchallenged, the Trump Administration is forcing doctors into the impossible position of either turning sick patients away or going to jail for providing lifesaving emergency care to women. This is not only a clear violation of federal law, it’s immoral.”
