Pallone: Trump’s Budget Accelerates the Affordability Crisis

April 3, 2026

Energy and Commerce Committee Ranking Member Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) released the following statement today on the White House’s Fiscal Year 2027 Budget:

“The president’s budget raises costs on families and accelerates the affordability crisis to pay for Trump’s war on Iran.

“In Trump’s first year back in office, health insurance premiums doubled, gas and electricity prices surged, countless Americans lost their health care, tariffs raised prices on everything from groceries to prescription drugs, unemployment spiked and the job market is the worst it’s been since the onset of Covid.

“Trump’s budget doubles down with catastrophic funding cuts that take health care away from even more people, raise energy prices, pollute our air, poison our water, and leave more Americans unemployed.

“We should be investing in people, not waging wars and paying for it by taking away from Americans. We deserve a country that helps lower costs, ensures people have health care, and fosters clean energy for a sustainable future. Unfortunately, President Trump would rather spend taxpayer money bombing Iran rather than investing in Americans.”
