Pallone: Trump’s Nuclear Energy Executive Orders Are Dangerous

Energy and Commerce Committee Ranking Member Frank Pallone Jr. (D-NJ) released the following statement after President Trump signed several executive orders undermining the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC):

“These executive orders are dangerous and could compromise the safety of nuclear energy in America. The White House should not be playing with the safety of nuclear reactors, which are critical to reducing carbon emissions while meeting growing energy demand.

“Allowing DOGE to blindly fire staff at the NRC does nothing to make it easier to permit or regulate nuclear power plants, but it will increase the risk of an accident. Furthermore, these actions undermine Congress’s clear intent in the ADVANCE Act, which was signed into law just last year after passing with overwhelming bipartisan support.

“Signing these executive orders on the heels of House passage of the GOP Tax Scam, which guts loans and tax credits for nuclear energy development, it is clear that Trump and Republicans are endangering a safe nuclear energy future.”
