Republicans Block Subpoena to Hold Secretary Kennedy Accountable
Energy and Commerce Committee Republicans blocked a subpoena today of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. to testify before Congress as preventable diseases spread across the country.
The motion to subpoena Secretary Kennedy was offered by Ranking Member Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) during an Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee hearing on biosecurity, pandemic threats, and artificial intelligence. The motion was tabled on a party line vote of 10-8.
"Republicans are holding an oversight hearing on future biosecurity and pandemic threats while completely ignoring the realtime health threat posed by Secretary Kennedy's leadership of our nation's health department," Pallone said. "A direct line can be drawn between Secretary Kennedy and the preventable disease outbreaks spreading across the country. Make no mistake, Americans will needlessly die due to his efforts to take away vaccines and undermine lifesaving medical research. Unfortunately, Republicans would rather stick their heads in the sand than protect the health and safety of the American people."
