October 26, 2017

Request Comes after Whitefish Received a Contract from Puerto Rico to Rebuild its Electrical Infrastructure

HouseEnergy and Commerce Committee Chairman Greg Walden (R-OR), Energy and Commerce Committee Ranking Member Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ), Energy Subcommittee Chairman Fred Upton (R-MI), Energy Subcommittee Ranking Member Bobby Rush (D-IL), and Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee Ranking Member Diana DeGette (D-CO), today sent a letter to Whitefish Energy Holdings, LLC regarding the contract they recently signed with the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority to repair and reconstruct electrical infrastructure in Puerto Rico.

The committee leaders write, "Energy and Commerce is conducting oversight of the United States' response and recovery efforts related to the devastating hurricanes that impacted U.S. states and territories this year. … We understand Whitefish is focused on the critical task of restoring power for the population of Puerto Rico. In light of the questions that have been raised about your company's involvement in recovery efforts, however, it is important to develop a clear understanding of the facts. Therefore, to assist the Committee with our ongoing oversight of hurricane response and recovery efforts, we request Whitefish provide a briefing for committee staff by November 9, 2017."

They continued, "In advance of the briefing and as soon as possible, we also request that you provide the Committee with the following documents and information:

1. Copies of contracts entered between Whitefish and the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority.

2. A list of entities subcontracted by Whitefish for hurricane response and recovery in Puerto Rico and a description listing their responsibilities and cost of contract.

3. A map detailing the location of current work and future work in Puerto Rico by Whitefish, its subsidiaries, or subcontractors."
