Pallone Blasts Republicans for Refusing to Invite Norfolk Southern to Hearing on East Palestine Train Derailment
Energy and Commerce Committee Ranking Member Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) released the following statement tonight blasting Committee Republicans for refusing to invite Norfolk Southern to an upcoming hearing on the train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio:
“It is outrageous that Republicans are refusing to invite Norfolk Southern to participate in our upcoming hearing on the train derailment in East Palestine. Republicans would rather spend their time trying to score political points against the Administration than get to the bottom of what happened, how to prevent it from happening again, and what more must be done to ensure the long-term health and safety of the surrounding community.
“That Republicans want to grill the federal agencies getting this disaster cleaned up but not the company that caused it tells the American people all they need to know: Republicans just aren’t interested in holding corporate polluters accountable for the harm they inflict on our communities. This is a shocking failure to live up to our Committee’s long history of effective bipartisan oversight, and the American people will be deprived of the answers they deserve as a result. Americans – and the people of East Palestine, in particular – deserve better.”
