Pallone Calls for Immediate Appeal and Overturn of Extreme Texas Court Decision on Mifepristone

Energy and Commerce Committee Ranking Member Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) released the following statement today on a Texas District Court decision on the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) longstanding approval of mifepristone:

"This unprecedented decision must be immediately appealed and overturned.

"The decision is not grounded in science or the law. It is intended to further Republicans' extreme political agenda to eliminate access to abortion nationwide.

"A single right-wing judge should not be able to abolish decades of peer reviewed scientific evidence on the safety of a medication. This decision creates a dangerous precedent that attempts to undermine FDA's drug approval process and furthers Republican efforts to dictate their ideological views to our nation's public health agencies.

"Today's decision is one more grave example of the lengths extreme Republicans will go to impose their beliefs on all Americans and once again demonstrates the extent to which women's health is under attack in the United States.

"We must ensure FDA's ‘Gold Standard' approval process is not threatened and we must pass the Women's Health Protection Act to ensure every American can access reproductive health care, regardless of where they live."
