Pallone Hails Progress and Vows to Defend Americans’ Health Care on the 13th Anniversary of the Affordable Care Act

March 23, 2023

Energy and Commerce Committee Ranking Member Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) released the following statement today on the 13th anniversary of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) being signed into law:

"After repeated attempts by Republicans to repeal the ACA, more Americans have health insurance coverage today than ever before. The law expanded access to high quality, affordable health care for millions and finally put an end to discrimination against people living with pre-existing conditions.

"Since President Obama signed the ACA into law, Democrats have not only successfully defended the law against Republican repeal attempts, but we've worked with President Biden to cover more people and lower costs. I'm hopeful we can continue to build on this progress as we continue the work to ensure all Americans have coverage and rein in the soaring cost of prescription drugs.

"It's no secret that Republicans in Congress are meeting behind closed doors to devise a way to undermine the ACA and Medicaid. I hope they know Democrats stand ready to defend the progress we've made. We will not allow Republicans to manufacture a debt crisis in order to justify taking away Americans' health care."
