Pallone on House Republicans’ Debt Limit Plan to Repeal Clean Energy Provisions from the Inflation Reduction Act
Energy and Commerce Committee Ranking Member Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) released the following statement on House Republicans' debt limit proposal, which would repeal climate and clean energy provisions from the Inflation Reduction Act and gut our bedrock environmental laws:
"This proposal repeals historic climate progress we made with the Inflation Reduction Act – it's nothing more than a grab bag of Big Oil giveaways and loopholes that endanger Americans' health and ensure energy costs keep rising.
"Republicans are creating a debt crisis to line the pockets of fossil fuel executives, increase energy costs for working families, and set American workers up to get left behind by abandoning our homegrown clean energy industry.
"That Republicans want to reverse climate progress is reckless enough, but that they want to allow our adversaries and competitors to gain market control over the next century's worth of energy technology is shameful.
"This plan is a nonstarter. Democrats won't allow Republicans to raise energy costs or strip Americans of their right to a clean future. After making such significant progress last year, we simply cannot go back."
