Pallone on House Republicans’ Debt Limit Plan to Take Away Health Care

Energy and Commerce Committee Ranking Member Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) released the following statement on House Republicans' debt limit proposal, which would kick millions of Americans off Medicaid and cut billions of dollars from the program:

"The overwhelming majority of Americans who rely on Medicaid have jobs, in many cases multiple jobs, to provide for their families and make ends meet.

"The reality is Medicaid is often the only coverage option for people working part-time jobs that don't offer health insurance.

"Speaker McCarthy's proposal is not about jobs. It is a Trojan Horse intended to use red tape and onerous paperwork to kick millions of people off their health insurance because Republicans do not believe in our nation's social safety net. Republicans are creating a debt crisis to justify these cruel plans.

"Let me be clear, this proposal is dead on arrival. Democrats will stand united against Republican efforts to take away Americans' health care."
