Pallone on Keystone XL Approval

March 24, 2017

Washington, D.C. Energy and Commerce Committee Ranking Member Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) released the following statement upon news that the Trump administration granted a permit authorizing construction of the Keystone XL pipeline this morning:

"President Trump's shortsighted decision today to proceed with construction of the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline will jeopardize our drinking water, clean air and healthy environment without any benefits for long-term job creation or energy security. There are serious legal questions about the President's action today, and I'm confident this rushed approval will face lengthy challenges in the courts. Despite President Trump's insistence, we should not assume that dirty tar sands oil will ever flow through this foreign-made pipeline."
