Pallone on President-Elect Biden Nominating Former Michigan Governor Granholm as Secretary of Energy

December 17, 2020

Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) released the following statement today after President-elect Joe Biden named former Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm as his nominee for Secretary of the U.S. Department of Energy:

"Governor Granholm is an eminently qualified, thoughtful public servant and I congratulate her on being nominated to lead the Department of Energy. I look forward to working with Secretary-Designate Granholm and the Biden Administration to update energy efficiency standards, protect our electricity grid from cyberattacks and the effects of extreme weather, deploy new technology and innovative manufacturing, and rebuild our economy with clean energy at its center.

"This is a time of tremendous opportunity for the energy industry as we have watched clean energy take off, become even more affordable, and prove resilient against change and price fluctuations in the face of a global pandemic. We need an Energy Secretary ready and willing to capitalize on that promise to the benefit of our economy, American jobs, and our environment. I have every confidence Governor Granholm will do exactly that and be the kind of competent, consensus-building leader this moment requires. She is particularly well suited to bring the auto industry, auto workers, and consumers together to ensure we deploy innovative clean technologies and build the next generation of vehicles in this country with good paying jobs for our workers.

"I urge the Senate to move quickly to confirm her so that we can get to work on rebuilding our economy and delivering energy solutions for the American people."
