Pallone & Peters on Albert Kelly Resignation from EPA

May 1, 2018

Energy and Commerce Ranking Member Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) and Committee Member Scott Peters (D-CA) issued the following statements today following news that Albert Kelly has resigned from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as Administrator Pruitt's top advisor of Superfund cleanups.

"I welcome today's announcement that Albert Kelly has stepped down from his role at EPA," Pallone said. "His conflicts and background made him undeserving of the public trust. Democrats will continue to shine light onto the corruption at Scott Pruitt's EPA, even if Congressional Republicans refuse to join us, to protect this important public health agency and to protect the American public."

"Albert Kelly should have never been put in charge of EPA's Superfund program in the first place," Peters said. "Last week, I asked Administrator Pruitt for details on why Kelly was banned for life from banking as well as his potential conflicts of interest, but Pruitt declined to answer my questions. While I welcome Kelly's resignation, Democrats will continue to investigate Pruitt's decision to put Kelly in charge of a multibillion dollar fund while serving a lifetime banking ban and Kelly's potential abuse of the program to benefit himself."
