Pallone Slams Trump Admin on Navigator Funding Cuts

September 14, 2017

Energy and Commerce Ranking Member Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) released the following statement today in response to reports that the Trump Administration will cut funding for some Affordable Care Act (ACA) Navigators by as much as 60% percent:

"Cutting funding for Navigators is exactly what you do when you're trying to suppress enrollment and sabotage the Affordable Care Act. This has nothing to do with the effectiveness of Navigators nor a desire to safeguard taxpayer dollars. The only outcome of these cynical cuts will be fewer people signing up for coverage, which the Trump Administration hopes will destabilize the health insurance markets and undermine the ACA. It's time for the Trump Administration to stop playing games with people's health care and to start getting to work on bipartisan solutions for quality, affordable health care."

Earlier this week, Pallone joined other Democratic Committee leaders in a letter to Secretary Price and Administrator Verma raising serious questions over the Administration's plans to roll back funding for Navigators. In the letter, the members express concern that the cuts are part of an ongoing, coordinated effort by the Trump Administration to intentionally suppress enrollment and destabilize the health insurance markets.
