Pallone & Tonko on EPA Funding for Flint Water Infrastructure Upgrades

Mar 17, 2017
Press Release

Washington, D.C. – Energy and Commerce Committee Ranking Member Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) and Environment Subcommittee Ranking Member Paul Tonko (D-NY) issued the following statement today in response to an announcement from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) awarding a $100 million grant to the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality to fund drinking water infrastructure upgrades in Flint, Michigan:

“This support for Flint is long overdue.  The residents of Flint have already endured more than 1,000 days without access to safe drinking water from their taps, access that is a necessity and not a luxury.  Congressional Democrats fought hard to secure this funding, which we know will have a huge impact on the long-term health of the Flint community and the surrounding economy.  After years of unnecessary hardship, we are pleased and relieved that Governor Snyder finally filed the paperwork necessary to convey these congressionally-directed funds to help rebuild infrastructure and secure access to safe drinking water for the people of Flint.”
